Short tour in Methoni

Littoral beautiful town, with 1.249 inhabitants, 61km south-west of Kalamata. At the entrance of the city there are two central roads. One lead to the market and the other to the impressive castle and the beach. Methone or else Mothone, as Pausanias mentions it, took its name by Mothona, a rock at the end of the coast which continues as reef under the sea.

In the northest part of the west coast of the Peloponnese, lies the great fortress of Methoni. In the small peninsula, that was already fortified from ancient times, there has always been a city, renown for its harbour.
